Welcome, Mr. Rucker – Student Teacher
We have a student teacher with us this fall: Tabor Rucker, from Fort Hays State University! He is a percussionist, originally from Hoxie, KS, and will be working with all of our ensembles and classes this semester.
Freshmen LINK Day, Pep Band/Drumline: Tuesday, August 15
ALL FRESHMEN — when you get to school (between 7:15am-7:35am) report to the band room on your way to the Cafeteria and pick up your Blue SME Band Shirt and some goodies! View the freshmen first day details here
Upperclassmen – WEAR BLUE BAND SHIRTS
- 7am: Drumline report.
- 7:15am-7:40am: Drumline performs for students as they arrive
- 7:45am: Drumline dismissed. Freshmen & Seniors head to LINK day locations
- 12pm: Pep Band Report — Section Leaders, upper classmen
- 12:20-12:40: Perform for Pep Rally in Gym
- 1:25: Pep rally ends
- 1:30: Dismissed

- Wednesday, August 16: All Bands, 7-period day. Bring instruments.
- Thursday, August 17, EVEN Class day. Bring instruments.
- Thursday, August 17 – MARCHING BAND – 6pm-8pm rehearsal. Please arrive no later than 5:45pm to set up. (Percussion 5:15pm).
- All Bands — Friday, August 18: ODD Class day. Bring instruments.
- All Bands — Saturday, August 19: Car Wash (see below)
- Marching Band — Monday, August 21 — 7am rehearsals (Zero Hour) begin. 7am rehearsals run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday during Marching Band season (thru mid-October)
Band Car Wash Saturday, August 19, 9am-1pm
- Saturday, August 19, 9am-1pm: SME Band Annual Car Wash
- 10am: Pep Band Performance for Lancer Dancer Breakfast
- 10:30am: Drumline Performance for Lancer Dancer Breakfast
- All students expected to participate in at least 1 shift (signups in class)
- Parent helpers, donations needed. Sign-up for donations and shifts here

- Tickets were handed out at the Marching Showcase and will be available in the band room for pickup. Each student is expected to sell 5 tickets — turn in envelopes with cash/check or leftover tickets
- Parents who have buckets, towels, etc at home from last year – please bring to band room the week of the event

Band Senior Pictures Tuesday, 8/22, 6-8pm
- Location TBA. ALL Seniors – Marching, Concert, Jazz. Dress: Concert Black

Lancer Day 2023 Parade & Home Football Game #1 is quickly approaching! It’s early this year — THURSDAY, August 31st (times are tentative)
- 1pm — Parade from SME to PV Shops. Band costume theme for parade: Chess Game Pieces (see section leaders for details)
- 2:30pm — students dismissed for dinner
- 5pm: Call time @ SME for students & volunteers
- 5:30pm: Travel to SM North Stadium
- 6:50pm: Pregame Performance
- 8:00pm: Halftime Show (Movement 1 & 2)
