Alison Gibson – 9/20 Marcher of the Week

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself.

A: My name is Alison Gibson, I am 17, and I am now a senior at East. I play the clarinet in marching band and the bass clarinet in symphonic band.

Q: What other activities are you involved in besides band?

A: Other than band, I am involved in softball (even though this year’s season didn’t really happen).

Q: What song describes your life right now?

A: Currently, the song that would describe my life is “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie. I think the title describes why it’s this song pretty well.

Q: What’s your favorite place you’ve ever visited?

A: My favorite place that I have ever visited is a specific spot in Assisi, Italy. It is a little walkway away from the street and has a beautiful view to the wine country below.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: My dream job would be a makeup artist or hair stylist, but as of right now that is somewhat unrealistic. I would love to go into the Peace Corps (which isn’t really a “job,” but I’ll count it).

Q: How do you relieve stress and anxiety?

A: I relieve stress and anxiety by sitting back and listening to music. I can often lay on my bed, listen to music, and get lost in my thought for hours.

Q: Rank your favorite sandwiches.

A: 1. Planet Sub Turkey and American. 2. Jimmy John’s Turkey Tom (without tomato). 3. Goodcents Turkey.

Q: What is the last song you listened to?

A: “Under Pressure” by Queen and David Bowie was the last song I listen to because I wanted to listen to it after I chose it for a song that describes my life.

Q: How long do you think you’d last in the zombie apocolpyse?

A: At the start of the zombie apocalypse, I would think that I could survive for a long time, but then I’d get too cocky and try to befriend the zombies. Thus my suffering after about three months.

Q: If you had an extra hour of free time every day, how would you use it?

A: If I had an extra hour of free time every day I would probably make an effort to call my best friend during that hour. We can get to talking for hours on the phone and since she moved away, I don’t call her as much as I want to or can.

Q: Do you prefer sunrise, daylight, twilight, or night and why?

A: I prefer sunset because it often puts pretty colors in the sky. Sunset is almost like the world is going to sleep after a day and I love sleep. Night time would be a closer runner up.

Q: In your opinion, what’s the best song ever written?

A: In my opinion, the best song ever written is “19” by Stray Kids. While the song is in Korean, the (translated) lyrics are phenomenal in expressing how we grow up too fast. The title, “19,” represents the last year of your childhood as a teen with your twenties right around the corner. Beyond the lyrics, the timing of the song is exquisite in having each line last 8 seconds, but near the end of the song, the verses become shorter and quicker (again to signify your youth slipping away).

Q: Do you have any fond band memories?

A: Going to Italy with the band was one of my best memories of band. It was an amazing adventure that I was so happy to experience with all my friends.

Q: Who are some graduated band members who have inspired you?

A: A band alumni that inspires me would be Davis Vaughn. No matter how much he was involved in, he always put on a smile and never complained. Even though we knew he was busy.

Q: What makes band special to you?

A: Band is special to me because no matter how bad of a morning/day I have, whenever I am on the marching field, none of my bad thoughts have room. I am always too focused on what I am doing.
